I can’t believe it! I never give up on a book. But this one, just gets more and more of a slog to read, and frankly I don’t think it’s worth the effort. Sorry author, but your book bites!

My new book, is totally different, and more in tune with my own life at the moment in the way that it is about a female traveller in her 40′s.

“Dreamers of the Day”, by Mary Doria Russell (2008) is set in the 1920′s and follows the musings and adventures of a repressed single woman from Ohio USA who finds herself in the unexpected position of being a woman of independant means. She decides to spend some of her inheritance following the footsteps of her deceased sister on a pilgrimage to Egypt, where she becomes entangled with British politicians of the day, and various other characters of some historical repute.

The pilgimage becomes more about discovering her own identity and sense of self….. I’m not finished yet, but this easy read is a bit of fun. Some of the historic details that are linked to this supposed non-entity from Ohio are a bit tenuous, but I can overlook this just to enjoy the story and lose myself in the promise of live and adventure in a foreign country.

Try it for yourself!

Sorry, this is taking ages! I am usually quite a fast reader, however my time seems to be taken increasingly in tapping away at a computer maintaining my blog.

I was shocked to check my clustermap and find that people have actually visiting my site!! Yikes!! Pressure to keep it interesting!!

It is actually really good that people have looked as this will keep me honest and help me reach my goals! So, whoever you are, thanks.

I am currently reading “The Seal”, by Adriana Koulias, 2006.  Genre – Historic Fiction.

This is about the history and I think the demise of The Knights Templar. It also looks closely at a couple of the leading characters from this era. Historic fiction is the genre I quite enjoy, although this one is taking some time to get into and to get to know the characters. I chose it as I have read and re-read the Dan Brown series of novels over the last few years, and thought I would read a bit more about The Templars. The jury is still out about whether I am enjoying it or not…but I do have enough interest in it to persevere.

If you have any recommendations about other books related to this, I would love to hear from you. Stay tuned for a full review when I am finished – I may need a couple of weeks!

I plan to use this blog to write book reviews and comments about what I have been reading.

I am actually an avid reader, and will read just about anything – good or bad, fiction and non, teenage and adult, with only 1 exception -  I can’t stand horror! I’m a total woossy (is that really a word?) in this respect.

This goal is just for me to keep up my reading, and to practice the craft of writing that I am so often talking to my students about (did I mention I’m a teacher?).

Wish me luck!
